Based on the iconic movie!
In a story that's as American as apple pie, racial prejudice collide with seemingly liberal values in the Sixties. Based on the original movie by William Rose that starred Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn and Sidney Poitier, we follow an eventful weekend spent at the affluent San Francisco home of Matt and Christina Drayton, a self-confessed progressive couple. The year is 1967 and they are awaiting the arrival of their daughter Joanna - who turns up with her boyfriend in tow, much to their surprise. But the fact that she was dating unbeknownst to them, is the least of their surprises that evening....
Conflicting beliefs
Her boyfriend is a tall, strapping doctor, 14 years her senior - and also African-American. Cultured and well-spoken, they can't help their shock that, and find themselves conflicted. Worried about their daughter's well-being and trying to reconcile their liberal beliefs, the dinner is tense and fraught, especially when they beg for her parents' blessing to get married, immediately. Based on the iconic movie, this witty and insightful reflection on two families confronted by their prejudices was also retooled into a remake in 2005, reversing the races of the boyfriend and family and starring Bernie Mac, Ashton Kutcher and Zoe Saldana.
