Loverly
Guthrie Theater presents their first ever production of this beloved musical. Based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, this musical comedy follows the fortunes of a professor and a lowly flower girl from London's East End. This odd pairing agree on a daring experiment designed to turn the lower-class cockney into a high-society lady - as you might expect, things don't quite go to plan. Lerner and Loewe's utterly charming classic will have you humming along to all its classic songs, including I Could Have Danced All Night, The Rain in Spain and On the Street Where You Live.
Guthrie's production is directed by Joe Dowling, and stars Helen Anker (Promises, Promises) as the irrepressible Eliza Doolittle, with able support coming from Jeff McCarthy as Mr Higgins and Tony-nominee Tony Sheldon playing the part of Colonel Pickering.
What is My Fair Lady About?
After a chance encounter on a rainy night in Edwardian london, Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle enter into a very special agreement. Higgins, a student of phonetics and a firm believer in the power of correct pronunciation, bets the cockney flower girl that in six months time he can have speaking properly. Little does Higgins know that their lessons together will change him just as much as it does her.
