THE ICONIC PLAY COMES TO THE GUTHRIE
Hot on the heels of Harper Lee's sequel novel Go Get A Watchman, comes the stage adaptation of her seminal Pulitzer Prize winning work that explores racism and justice in a small town in the Deep South. Told through the eyes of six-year-old Scout, the tomboyish daughter of lawyer Atticus Finch, a brutal crime committed in the town divides the community on racial lines. Scout and her family, especially Atticus, face suspicion and violence as he defends the accused; a black man.
As Finch toils to uncover the truth, he finds himself ostracised at every turn, and at the apex of the story a group of men led by the girl's racist father, are intent on lynching the defendant, Tom. This danger is averted when Scout, her brother Jem, and friend Dill shame the mob into dispersing by forcing them to view the situation from Atticus' and Tom's points of view.
In the meantime, the children are uncovering a mystery of their own - who is their elusive neighbour Boo Radley? They find that despite their wary perceptions of him, he has a heart of gold.
