Andrew Lloyd Webber's smash musicalization of the Gaston Leroux novel won the 1988 Tony Award for Best Musical. Now a new era beckons for Broadway megahit Phantom - beginning this fall with the launch of a national tour of a newly reimagined production.
Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber have announced the coming American premiere of this newly reinvented staging, which has a new scenic design and direction. This reimagining and has proved popular on it's inaugral U.K. tour. Based on Gaston Leroux's gothic novel of life beneath the stage of the Paris Opera House where The Phantom reigns. Hideously deformed, he passes his time terrorizing the members of the Opera until he falls in love with Christine Daae, a young soprano who he teaches to sing the 'Music of the Night'.
With an exciting new design and staging, yet retaining the amazing original costumes, Webber is confident this new-look Phantom will sweep the States off its oollective feet!
