PARKER PLAYS GERSHWIN - MINNESOTA ORCHESTRA

August 2, 2024, Orchestra Hall

Award-winning Canadian pianist Jon Kimura Parker joins the Minnesota Orchestra to perform one of the American icon George Gershwin's greatest works: his Concerto in F for Solo Piano and Orchestra

Conducted by Lina Gonzales-Granados making her first appearance with the Minnesota Orchestra, the program also includes selections from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, John Harbison's Remembering Gatsby and Darius Milhaud's Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit, all together taking Minnesota audiences on a trip to the twenties.

Witness a concert that will transport you to Paris through the eyes of an American, in this thrilling performance of George Gershwin's An American In Paris!

One of the hallmark pieces of the American composer's repertoire, his signature, jazz-tinged playfulness is all across the piece, which inspired a 1951 movie of the same name.

San Francisco native Ali Wong is a comedian unafraid to leave no stone unturned as she confronts taboo topics with hilarious consequences.

Sex, her marriage, pregnancy and more sex are topics she frequently sinks her teeth into, tearing into feminism and sexism with an unmatched voraciousness. She may seem like a demure mom of one when she first meets the eye, but Wong brass, bold, lewd and taking the comedy scene by storm.

When flower store assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles upon a very strange new plant species, he has high hopes that his discovery will lead to fame, fortune and the heart of his unrequited crush, Audrey.

But Seymour gets a whole lot more than he bargained for from this exotic foliage. After an accident, the cute little Audrey II (named for his beloved) develops an insatiable thirst for human blood and a set of R&B singing pipes, leading Seymour to turn serial killer to keep his secret from bursting out of Skid Row and endangering the whole human race. Think Groot, but with a carnivorous appetite!
