The heart wrenching, deeply moving dramedy Steel Magnolias wings its way to the Guthrie Theatre for a hotly anticipated run this fall. Inspired by the original play and film's all-female cast, this Minneapolis reboot features an all-female design team, helmed by NYC-based, female director Lisa Rothe. Together they bring writer Robert Harling's tribute to his late sister to life with tenderness and heart, portraying the resilience of the bonds of womanhood and sisterhood.
Charting the lives of six small town women through times of great hardship, great joy and the messy bits in between, Steel Magnolias balances Harling's trademark witty dialogue with moments of despair for a profound portrait of the human condition. Set in the Chinquapin salon, Louisiana, the play chronicles salon owner Truvy Jone's interactions with her regulars and friends. Their lighthearted conversations and true friendship, go a long way in helping them cope with the difficulties of life.
Opening night: 26 November 2019
