LOVE, LAUGHTER, BEAUTY AND MORE!

I cannot begin to describe how much I loved this production. The amount of raw emotion and passion that I could feel through out the show was unreal. Best first broadway show of Chicago! If you want some non-stop laughter and experience love in all colors please go see Moulin Rouge.

MOULIN ROUGE

A great evening of entertainment. The cast is excellent with song and energy. The best lighting I’ve seen in a musical. An impossible creation blending in about 70 songs. Conor Ryan is perfect for Christian. So is Courtney Reed as Satine. August Durant from the Broadway Zidler couldn’t be better. Don’t miss the show!

5.0 star rating Lezah Green from Chicago, Illinois

THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN'T HAVE A GOOD TIME!

I saw this show yesterday and it was a wonderful musical to see when one has not been in a theater for over two years. It was a just plain fun show. The music, the dancing, the singing, the acting, and the set were all spectacular. I knew every song in the show. I read a review that criticized the show for plugging in new music but it was great. At the end of the play, during the standing ovation, people were clapping to the music and singing back to the cast. It was a nice way to be welcomed back to the theater.

5.0 star rating Jim K from Joliet, Illinois

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! BLOWN AWAY!!

The singers/dancers were phenomenal. The intermingling of modern songs we all know was beautiful & used impeccably within the script/setting. The stage & settings while impressive, were simple support for a very talented cast without being over bearing. Great direction gave performance a flow that left you wanting more. Funny, energetic, happy, exciting, sad, anger, intensity, this musical will touch every emotion! Totally absorbs you!!

THE ARTISTRY IS AMAZING

The performers beyond outstanding. The music just makes you smile so wide, while chair dancing, from start to finish. Music so well mixed, and fun crafty humor. The dancing well, beyond any show I've ever seen. Never saw a more entertaining uplifting musical in my life. The costumes are stunning, exciting, and the movement a visual art. The stage production, extraordinarily impressive. I always repeat myself, but this show is a Must See. Bravo to the company, I'll be smiling for a long long time, cuz I CAN CAN CAN! Never did this before I went twice! BRAVO!

I just saw Moulin Rouge at the Buell Theater on Sunday, and it was fabulous! A professional troop, where the performer's, their singing, dancing, and music were all outstanding! It was an energetic, and lively few hours of entertainment. Absolutely 💯 % recommend this show.

One of the best musicals we have seen in years. Love all the pop songs interwoven in the script. Funny, great sets, actors are excellent!

AMAZING

So much to say I don't know where to start. I have seen a lot of theater and this musical is by far the BEST show ever! You can feel the energy, the love, the laughter. Truth, beauty, love and freedom from beginning to end. Just SPECTACULAR. I wanted to personally thank each actor as you could see them giving it their all and enjoying their trade while gifting us their talent.

MOULIN ROUGE

The I was so impressed by every aspect of this theater! There's not a bad seat in this beautiful theater, great staff, and no long wait in line (even with a packed house). I would highly recommend this for a spectacular night out! Now for the show... It was utterly mesmerizing from beginning to end! The performer's acting, dancing and singing left me speechless! I'll have to say they had some of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard! Oh, the costumes and orchestra were exquisite as well! I laughed and cried. Overall I was in awe of the entire experience. It will be one of my favorite experiences, and will remember for a lifetime! I would say it would this show would be appropriate for age 17+. If possible I would rate this 500 stars!

AWESOME PRODUCTION!

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised as I don't usually enjoy musicals at all! The modern take and how they incorporated relevant music into the script and storyline really engaged me. The acting and signing was great I thought. I liked the plot. The set was breathtaking. I don't go to a lot of plays/musicals but i was very impressed. I would highly recommend this particular production to anyone looking for a great night out and a great show!

VISUAL AND MUSICAL SPECTACULAR

Non stop excitement from the moment the show starts. The lighting is the best I've ever seen in a musical. The sets and costumes are spectacular. The talent of the singers and dancers is mind blowing... I've seen it 5 times... will see it once more before it leaves San Francisco...

MOULIN ROUGE

Saw the New York production when it first opened. Wow! the staging was amazing and immersive, feels like you are in it with them. However, the national touring production takes it down a notch with limitations at theaters and space to create that same immersive production due to space. AND the touring cast isn't the same as the Broadway stars of the original production. However, it's still pretty damn good. High energy, so much to look at, great additional songs that weren't in the film, and definitely leaves you feeling like "you ain't seen anything like it"

DEFINITE WIN!

As someone viewing from backstage, up close and personal, I am So impressed. I WISH I could enjoy it from audience and envy the total experience . SO fortunate to hear, see, and bask in beauty and sadness of the Moulin Rouge

FABULOUS

Loved the new songs, the choreography and the passion of the actors. Most engaging musical I’ve ever attended. The set was simplistically elegant and the lighting superb. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m not alone- standing ovation from a packed theater.

MOULIN ROUGE H-TOWN PRODUCTION AT HOBBY CENTER

Had a chance to watch the musical today at the hobby center in downtown Houston. I was very impressed with show ! I went with my 2 daughters who are 13 & 14 years old. This was their birthday present to me. I didn’t know what to expect. We love the movie and also appreciated that the musical was going to be different with new music and changes to story. The musical did a great job of blending in pop lyrics into dialogue, very entertaining! Set design, lighting and sound quality were excellent. The movie’s art design set a high bar and the musical exceeded my expectations ! The cast was amazing, incredible performances by all. I highly recommend this show and would watch a few more times if I could !

5.0 star rating from Atlanta, Georgia

BEST SHOW OF THE SEASON

From the opening number my thoughts were wow if the rest of the show is half as good as this number I’m going to be absolutely amazed. Visually the show is incredible, the audio was superb, costumes over the top! John Cardoza stole the show as Christian,he vocally nailed every number. This show was the reason we bought season tickets absolutely blown away.

MOULIN ROUGE! A MUST SEE SHOW

As a lover of the movie, I wasn't sure how they would make the same magic on stage..... But WOW they surpassed anything I could have imagined. The music, the dancing, the brilliant script and the scope of production was amazing! It is so good, I'm going back a 2nd time during this tour. Go see it!

TRANSCENDENT PERFORMANCES!

Moulin Rouge in DC was a transcendent experience! I got goosebumps during many of the moving, familiar songs. I felt true expression, joy, energy and sorrow from the stellar cast throughout the show. Vocal prowess, superb dancing and stage presence from the cast, plus innovative lighting, clear sound, seamless choreography, and the stunning set design combined into a magnificent performance. Do yourself a favor and see this show while you can. Then see it again.

5.0 star rating D from Philadelphia, Pa

EXCELLENT TOURING COMPANY PRODUCTION

I was completely won over by this production which, played Philadelphia prior to DC. John Cardoza and Courtney Reed were Christian and Satine backed by an excellent supporting cast. Excellent band, costumes and physical production. Courtney Reed recently began playing the role of Satine on Broadway . John Cardoza remains as of now. Both again were wonderful.

WHAT WOULD THERE BE TO SAY NEGATIVE?

My significant other picked this as a "date night." Wouldn't have been my first or top ten choice. After seeing the energy on stage, the work that everyone must put into a show like this, how could I not say that I was pleasantly suprised. Very Upbeat, a great mix of current and past songs from countless artists. More of a watch sporting events guy, but have to say it kept my attention and I sure have a very high level of respect to the entire cast and crew! Well Done!

5.0 star rating Kevin Barrett from Boston, Massachusetts

OVERALL A TREMENDOUS SHOW!!

The stage and lighting was that of a major production. The amalgamation of modern pop culture songs to tell the story was brilliant. Choreography was strong, but perhaps some room for improvement. Citizens Bank Opera House venue is top notch. And my date made it a perfect night!

MOULIN ROUGE

I've read some of these reviews and anyone that doesn't give this production 5 stars, then you're never going to be able to please them! This show was amazing, the music, the singing, the dancing, the comedy was top notch! I've seen a lot of shows over the years and this was one of the best! So incredibly entertaining!! Go see it, you won't be disappointed!

EXTRAORDINARY!

This show was so amazing! I didn’t really know this show, giving i had never seen the movie, and with two tweens I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate or not. But, the show was so funny, the dancing, acting and singing was outstanding, and wasn’t too inappropriate. The kids loved it, and so did I!

MOULIN ROUGE

This was one of the best musical productions I have seen in years. I have been a New Yorker my entire life, and have frequented Broadway. This was full of so much talent, such an energetic production, I felt as if I was sitting in a Broadway theatre. It blew me away! The cleaver intertwined songs, the voices, the dancing, it’s a winner and not to be missed! Loved it!

4.0 star rating Eau from Chicago, Illinois

A LOT OF FUN, GORGEOUS SETS AND COSTUMES, SINGING SPOTTY

We were thoroughly entertained - and was a good venue for our 6th grader too, arguably slightly less risqué than the movie. The sets are perfect, dazzling, exquisite! Same for costumes. I wish the stars had been as enthralling. Sateen was flat and her voice strange enough I wondered if she’d been sick - maybe so. Christian was an understudy, hung in there and did well enough not to distract. Ziegler and Toulouse were wonderful and absorbing, couldn’t separate the actors from their characters, which is how I like it!

4.0 star rating from Cleveland, Ohio

SPECTACULAR BUT LACKING

This was an absolutely stunning show. John Cordoza is a phenom as Christian. Austin Durant was amazing as Harold. Andrew Brewer as the Duke was very convincing and talented. Libby as Nini and Gabe as Santiago were insanely sexy and WOW oh so good. (I think Nini should have played Satine). Nick Rashad Burroughs was a rock star. The lighting, the dancing, the supporting cast was insane. But I was disappointed with Courtney Reed. She was disconnected, not at all passionate, rigid, classical...and just not at all sexy. Can she hit all the notes...yes. Can she mark the moves...sort of. I didn't FEEL anything from her. I did from literally every other cast member and they were AMAZING! But Courtney fell short. Maybe she had a bad day. But something got in the way. 6 stars for the cast...4 for Courtney being disconnected, kind of totally unsexy, and dropping the ball. Overall though, 5 stars. This was an insanely good production and I LOVED it...and had a super fun time during the encore.

4.0 star rating Theater Fan from Alexandria, VA

GREAT PRODUCTION, THIN STORY

First, the actors were all top notch, especially Christian, Satine, and Satine's amazingly flexible friend. The staging iis over the top spectacular, and the costumes are gorgeous . But the book and music -- it was distracting to have a love scene and the actors break into an old Elton John chestnut. The story was pretty hackneyed too -- we've seen it it a hundred times before. So,go for the spectacle, but don't expect a deep, engaging story.

MOULIN ROUGE TOUR SURPRISES!

I saw the movie yrs ago & actually found it strange. Here we are 20 yrs later & I decide to give it another chance bc of its success on Bdway. I was so surprised by the entire show & how all songs were arranged & interwoven so perfectly! The set, lighting, & costuming alone would be reason to attend. The vocal talent was very good most especially the 2 male leads. Acting was well-done. I found myself feeling almost sympathetic towards the antagonist, the Duke, & most empathetic towards the male protagonist, Christian. (What a fabulous, natural vocal instrument he has!) Christian & the featured female lead, Satine, have excellent chemistry together. Other stand-outs were characters Harold & Toulouse-Lautrec. Dancers were flawless and never stopped giving until the curtain fell. Amazing energy all-around. The music director & pit seemed to really enjoy their jobs. A light bite at The French Quarter beforehand and you'll cry "Tutti bravi," at the final curtain just like I did on Tuesday!

A MUSICAL MADE FOR TIK TOK OR INSTAGRAM

Lighting, check. Set, check. Music, check (assuming you can live with 15 to 30 seconds of any one tune). Depth....meh. To be fair, a handful of songs are fully peformed (I would hate to see the licensing cost for this show). The best description on a reveiw I've seen is that the show is "pretty close to karaoke". Doesn't make it bad, just not sure it makes it Broadway. It has its fair share of laughs and the crowd did really seem to enjoy it, including clapping and singing along at times. Will you have fun...probably. Will you remember this as one of the great shows you've seen...probably not, at least I didn't.

MOSTLY MEH

I found the show to be more disappointing than I'd like to say, but that's not due to the cast and crew. Set was lovely and lighting was great. The cast did a good job. I felt this show shouldnt just be called 'Moulin Rouge' but rather some pop-culture rendition of it. They cut a lot of the old songs out or sang a few bars of it and then threw in something current instead. As someone who absolutely loves the movie, this ruined it for me. If you go in expecting something more true to the film version, as far as music goes, you will be disappointed.

3.0 star rating Jayne Eardley from Chicago, Illinois

SADLY LACKING

I was lucky enough to see Moulin Rouge in the West End a week ago. As it was so good, I did not hesitate to book again while visiting Chicago. I can only say I’m heart broken. Although the set and costumes is just as brilliant, sadly, the performance and sound quality is not. The atmosphere in the theatre was dire… no one danced or sang along which was stark contrast to the electric ‘buzz’ to the UK. So disappointing

3.0 star rating Veronica Smith from Chicago, Illinois

POP CULTURE INSPIRED

The main characters Christian and Satin are not as breathtaking as you want them to be. As you are watching you want to enjoy songs that are associated with this musical the most but instead you find a medley of pop culture songs. There were a lot of disappointing moments. I also don't understand why you have to throw jokes all around. Sometimes you want to embrace the deepness of emotions.

3.0 star rating Los Angeles Sailor from Los Angeles, California

SPECTACULAR SHOW EXPERIENCE RUINED BY ROCK-CONCERT SOUND LEVELS

My wife loves musicals, so recently we attended the production of Moulin Rouge at the Hollywood Pantages Theater. It was our first full-production musical since the onset of the pandemic, so I had forgotten to prepare for what I might encounter. As a result, the onslaught of pyrotechnic level sound volumes undoubtedly damaged my ears as they’re still ringing a day later. I'm down rating the production for not warning the audience ahead of time that it was going to be exposed to rock concert sound levels.

3.0 star rating Melissa from Costa Mesa, California

DOES NOT COMPARE TO THE MOVIE.

The sets, costumes , singing and acting were very good. However the altered storyline and revamped song mashup did not further character development at all and actually was disappointing . Overall skip it and watch the film .. my review MEH!!!

3.0 star rating Jason Harris from Sunnyvale, Texas

IT WAS OK, JUST DON'T EXPECT THE MOVIE

I will start off by saying that I am not a theater goer, & this is the first musical I have seen since I was a teenager, 42 now. And Moulin Rouge the movie is one of my top 3 favorites of all time. I went in expecting a stage version of the movie, & I wish I had known that's not what this was. While the loose outline & characters were there, too much of the storyline was changed & WAY TOO MUCH new music was introduced. I can understand adding a FEW newer songs, the movie is over 20 years old. But they mashed in so much new stuff, that they cut the original songs way too short. And for some reason a good portion of the audience thought it was a great time to laugh every, single, time, a new song was introduced. Not to mention bust out laughing during the "she doesn't love you" scene. I know the audience is out of the casts control, but it really took something away from the performance. Not as captivating I guess. With all the fees & everything, $100 a ticket is too much for this.

3.0 star rating Dina from Dallas, Texas

THE SET WAS AMAZING… BUT NOTHING ELSE

No chemistry, jumbled rewrite of the story that just didn’t work. The new songs lost the passion and longing that is the Moulin Rouge. I get wanting to add updated songs, but at least try to make it new instead of just a cover. Acting was off, especially Satine. More like a Disney princess than a Courtesan. Zig Ziegler and Christian actors good. Other characters sadly under utilized. Happy to have supported the arts, but this was so disappointing.

3.0 star rating Ana from Tampa, Florida

SO LOUD IT HURT OUR EARDRUMS

The acoustics in this hall were horrible. It was so loud you could barely understand what was being said or sung and it literally hurt our eardrums. People next to us said the same thing. Ive read other reviews of shows in the Carol Morsani hall that say the same thing about the acoustics. We wont be returning to see anything at the Carol Morsani hall because the acoustics are that bad. What a shame.

2.0 star rating Mariann Springer from Los Angeles, California

MOULIN ROUGE

Costumes, set, and talent are excellent. The story is ridiculous, trite, and simple. Is it a variety show or re-hash of known songs? A total disappointment unless you are ready to be dazzled by the set and costumes.

2.0 star rating Scott Wojtowicz from Los Angeles, California

REMIND ME OF A CRUISE SHIP PRODUCTION

First off it felt like a bait and switch as half of the leads advertised are not in the production, which may explain why the costumes seen so ill fitting. The actor playing the Duke, which apparently is not a substitute, can't sing. Some of the cast are good, dinner just okay, none great. It's a shame. I really wanted to like it, but it just fell flat.

2.0 star rating Robert from Los Angeles, California

PRETTY DISSAPOINTING

Saw Moulin Rouge with my partner last night and we were very disappointed. You should only pay for this show if you're ready to turn off your brain and clap along to a torch song version of Firework by Katy Perry. As part of the younger generation that this re-work of new pop songs was clearly targeting, I have to say it was not impressive. Many of the song choices were simply absurd even at times when it only serves as an 8 bar references in a medley reminiscent of your local Pop Radio station playlist. With a completely altered story from the movie, don't expect any faithful retelling of the movie you love. Its more a cover band concert that lives & dies on spectacle than a musical version of the movie. If you're willing to pay $60+ for a 3 hour pop song cover show, go for it. Otherwise, press randomize on Netflix - you'll probably be more entertained that way and save on the parking/travel/ticket costs to a night out for another show.

2.0 star rating Aaron from San Francisco, California

NO SUSPENSE OR SURPRISES

If you’ve seen the movie you know what’s going to happen. The set, costumes, and choreography are all fine. The mashups of pop songs gets exhausting. Almost like an assault. It’s too too much. I had a fifth row center seat. Moved to an empty seat in the back of the Orpheum after intermission. More comfortable. I really enjoyed one performer in particular. Andre Ward plays Toulouse LaTrek fabulously. Overall, I think I didn’t enjoy it as much because I saw the movie so many years ago and trying to recreate that excitement for the stage just didn’t work for me.

2.0 star rating Kenneth Cornell from Houston, Texas

MOULIN ROUGE

The performers were good, but the show was disappointing in every other way. The music was changed almost completely, as was the story line. It was a real bait and switch. The show should not be marketed as “Moulin Rouge”, but rather as a 2023 adaptation of the original.

2.0 star rating Patricia from Dallas, Texas

AWFUL

Nothing about this play was authentic. The costumes were far from period. The music was a series of pop songs. I felt like they just strung a bunch of songs together. We left at intermission.

2.0 star rating Natalie from Dallas, Texas

AS A HUGE MOULIN ROUGE FANATIC... JUST NO.

The set, costumes, and performers were beautiful. Outstanding. Harold Zidler was incredible. Everything else fell very flat. Completely strayed from the storyline that is such a masterpiece. The modern songs were awful and unnecessary. They turned a beautiful tragedy into a cheap comedy. I was extremely disappointed. And they made Christian whiny and unbearable. There was no chemistry or story build up. It was pretty, but would have been better as a concert and not a production.

2.0 star rating Jess from Durham, North Carolina

A CRUISE LINE PERFORMANCE

Although the set was beautiful, I’ve seen better performances on Cruise lines. A poor attempt to modernize the score made this a miss in many ways. Intermission exits high.

2.0 star rating Private from Cincinnati, Ohio

WEAK STORY

I would not be giving justice to the Hamilton and others if I gave this any more than 2 stars. The weak story, weeping singing for large portion of the song and some costumes on some folks almost beg you to walkout.

2.0 star rating Mik Myers from Rochester, New York

RATHER GROSS AND INSULTING TO FEMALES

The show is gross and shows females being used and mistreated by men. There are threats of violence to female characters in the play, and sexual exploitation. It is absolutely not appropriate for children, and in general is a low class, gross play. Better to spend your $ elsewhere.

2.0 star rating Michael Jayess from Winter Park, Florida

MOULON ROGUE

While the set dazzled, the performers were outshines by all of it. The sound was akin to theater in the old Bob Carr. With a diluted story for the woke, they did everyting to make you want to see the movie again just to be reassured that good story telling and character development still is possible. Not here, and worse of all, NO WINDMILL!

1.0 star rating Thomas C. from Denver, Colorado

ROUGH

I don't know where to start. I hated the Movie but really like the cast recording & thought on stage it would be better. I also hoped that a couple of decades would have improved or my criticism mellowed. The audience was laughing @ the horribly written lines & they were the "serious" moments. That was distracting & I felt terrible for the actors. Sets, Costumes, lighting & the performers were great. Just the Book is so bad. I know there wasn't much TONY competition the year it won so I can understand how it won so many. I've never seen so many leave at intermission. I was looking so forward to it too. I just counted this as my charitable donation to the ARTS.

WHAT A MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT

Poor sound quality The story reinvented (not for the better) Music missing But a steaming pile of karaoke songs added for some inexplicable reason. Shame

TERRIBLE

Save your money. If you liked the movie which is why most people come you’ll be sorely disappointed. This a pop mashup and none of the original songs. Hard pass.

AWFUL, NOT EVEN MOULIN ROUGE

They ruined Moulin Rouge. If you like Moulin Rouge and you are going to see Moulin Rouge do not see this. People walked out in the middle of it. I wanted to walk out after the second act but gave it a shot. So disappointed. Not worth it, wouldn’t even tell people to see it if it was free!!!

1.0 star rating Ruth Madison from Boston, Massachusetts

FLAT EMOTIONS, POOR SOUND QUALITY

Such a disappointment- worst Broadway in Boston musical I have ever seen. The cast never connected with the audience, no sexual tension between characters, music was terrible with instruments covering voices. I am shocked by this sad excuse of a musical
