Back in time
The Warren Hayes led Gov't Mule are celebrating their twentieth Anniversary, a milestone which has led the band to dig back into their archives and release some old live recordings for the very first time. One of these is Sco-Mule, a collaboration with jazz guitarist virtuoso John Scofield that was recorded at a couple of shows in Athens in 1999. In honor of this long awaited project finally seeing the light of day, Gov't Mule and Schofield are embarking on a joint tour in February and March.
Gov't Mule were formed in 1994 by Allman Brothers members Warren Hayes and Allen Woody. Their eponymous debut album arrived in 1995, and maybe their crowning achievement came four years later with the release of Live...With a Little help from My Friends. A sprawling, multi-disc recording of their 1998 New Year's concert in Atlanta, it showcased the band's incredible talent for epic jams. Their cover of Santamaria's Afro-Blue alone stretched to nearly 17 minutes. Their subsequent records have included Deja Voodoo and High & Mighty.
