Purple Rain Musical Reveals Stars for World Premiere

Stage adaptation of the iconic Prince film set to debut in Minneapolis this October.

The stage adaptation of Purple Rain will debut at Minneapolis' State Theatre, October 16 to November 16, with Kris Kollins as The Kid and Rachel Webb as Apollonia. Kollins, a D.C. based singer-songwriter who was discovered on social media makes his professional stage debut, while Webb comes off the national tour and Broadway run of & Juliet. 

Pulitzer Prize winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins adapts the 1984 Prince film for the stage, with music supervision by Tony winner Jason Michael Webb. Prince collaborators Bobby Z and Morris Hayes serve as music advisors, bringing hits like "When Doves Cry" and the title track to the stage. 

Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, this production will feature choreography by Ebony Williams, scenic design by David Zinn and a creative team of award-winning theater artists. 

WHAT IS PURPLE RAIN ABOUT? 

A troubled kid with a difficult home life finds an escape through music with his band. His future in the scene is threatened as he lets his personal struggles get in the way. Will he turn it around or will he descend further into darkness?
