Author KevinKevin, May 1st, 2024

Was it snubbed? Was it deserved? Your favorite show is where on the list?

No matter what you think of the 77th annual Tony Nominations, let's agree on one thing - it's certainly an interesting list. Leading the nominations are; Stereophonic (13) who have made history as the most nominated play ever, Hell's Kitchen (13), and The Outsiders (12).

Announced by Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) and Rene Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton), you can check out the full list of nominees here. Once you've familiarized yourself with the nominees, get comfortable with our thoughts on the 2024 Nominations.

HURRAY FOR CABARET!

Our team agreed that there was justice served for Cabaret. With a whopping 9 nominations, Cabaret finds itself fourth on the list - and that's not bad going at all. The recent revival on Broadway didn't seem to shake the water too much, but in the words of our team member Kitty it looks like those bad reviews were thankfully ignored by the Tony jury!'.

SHOUTOUT TO DANIEL RADCLIFFE!

From Hogwarts to the stage, Daniel Radcliffe has officially notched his first Tony nomination ever for Merrily We Roll Along, which managed to snag 7 nominations in total. Merrily is a musical that highlights the powerful and intimate music of Stephen Sondheim while narrating the complex bond between three friends throughout their lives. As it goes, Daniel Radcliffe isn't just the boy who lived, but the boy who sang too!

IT'S GOOD NEWS FOR ALICIA KEYS

No one can get in the way of Alicia Keys! This fresh coming-of-age story by the 16-time Grammy Award-winning R&B queen draws inspiration from Keys' personal experiences in New York City. Despite only premiering in previews on March 28th and officially opening on April 20th on Broadway, it seems that Hell's Kitchen is one of the hottest shows in town.

IT'S A WELL DESERVED RACE

The 2024 Tony Award nominations have sparked quite the buzz with clear and well-deserved standouts leading the pack. However, which show do you think deserved more? For example, Suffs has the dream hand of musicals with its book, score, and direction, and while it did well, it didn't quite take the cake. Did The Whiz deserve no nominations? Perhaps its lack of marketing played a role. We could talk about this forever, so check out the shows that got left in the dust.
