This is what it sounds like...when Purple Rain hits the stage! Two-time Tony winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins has penned the book for the new musical based on Prince's legendary film, which is set to be so good you'll scream "Take Me With U!" The world premiere of Purple Rain hits Hennepin Arts' State Theatre in Prince's very own hometown of Minneapolis, running October 16 - November 16, 2025.
You can bet your Raspberry Beret this show's got its sights set on Broadway after that.

About The Show
Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz (The Skin of Our Teeth), the creative crew includes choreographer Ebony Williams, scenic designer David Zinn, and costume designer Montana Levi. The cast features Bilaal Avaz as Doc, Leon Addison Brown as Father, Jaci Calderon as Susan, Lawrence Gilliard Jr. as Billy Sparks, and Anissa Griego as Jill - plus a whole crew of electric talent bringing Minneapolis' music scene to life.
A troubled kid with a difficult home life finds an escape through music with his band. His future in the scene is threatened as he lets his personal struggles get in the way. Will he turn it around, or will he descend further into darkness?
