Tony Award winner Matthew Lopez brings new play inspired by his childhood to Guthrie Theater
Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew Lopez (The Inheritance) brings this thrilling blend of play and dance inspired by his upbringing to the Guthrie Theater this Winter. Telling the tale of a family desperate to make it in show business and their love of West Side Story, Somewhere is a big-hearted family drama dedicated to the power of music and dance.
West Side Story has just premiered, and America has fallen in love with it - including the Candelaria family, who all dream of making a life in show business. So when it is announced that West Side Story will get a movie adaptation, the family are thrilled. But their excitement is brought down to earth by the news that their apartment block is due for demolition, leaving them with 30 days to find a new home. This extraordinary new play focuses on the pull between our dreams and the harsh realities of life.
